    Tamale On Time Bomb

Police intelligence reports have it that some miscreants in Tamale are planning to destabilize the fragile peace of Dagbon as fervent preparations are underway to celebrate the 8th Memorial Service of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II which comes off on the 28th of March.

The Northern Regional Police Commander, ACP Angwubutoge Awuni gave the hint at a meeting with the leadership of the Tamale Butchers Association over the weekend at the Regional Police Headquarters.

The Northern Regional Police Command has therefore appealed to all peace loving citizens of Dagbon to assist security operatives in the region to clump down on the activities of such persons to maintain law and order in the area.

He impressed upon chiefs, religious, youth and opinion leaders in the Tamale metropolis to institute and strenthen social auditing clubs in their localities which will be responsible for providing vital information to the police to flush out trouble makers.

He announced that government spends Gh 200,000 cedis every month on local peace keeping mission in the entire region and said such monies coud have been channeled into building more schools, hospitals and other social amenities to alleviate the plight of the suffering masses.

ACP Awuni said the police and its collaborators alone could not keep peace in the Region and implored the leadership of all interest groups in particularly the Dagbon State to avert calamities that will endanger the welfare of well meaning citizens.

The Regional Police Commander condemned a cross section of the media especially some Tamale based local FM stations for inflaming passions on their networks and challenged their management to save Tamale from the Rwandan genocide situation by censoring their programmers.

Mr. Abass Mumuni, Chairman of the Tamale Butchers Association thanked the regional police command for ensuring maximum security in the entire region and pledged members unflinching support to assist the police protect lives and property in their localities.

He refuted allegations that Butchers have always been at the centre stage of every mayhem in Tamale and said they were rather committed to maintaining peace and harmony in the area.
