After Angel exited the competition in the fourth Eviction Show on Wednesday July 21, there was only one thing to expect from the other contestants; excellence.
For the three judges namely, Paulina Oduro, Carlos Sakyi and David Kyei, it was to be a show like no other, as they watched the six contestants deliver some of the soothing ‘old school’ tunes.
Sammy kicked off the show with Ben E. King’s ‘Stand by me’ and performed so well to the admiration of the judges. Victoria followed with a rather average performance of ‘All my life’. Abigail, sailing on her success from the previous week’s performance, wooed the judges with ‘Can’t help falling in love’, by Elvis Presley.
Philip was at his best with an improved performance from last week’s, as he gave a top-notch rendition of "What a wonderful world", by Bob Thiele and George David Weiss.
He was followed by Angie, who after a false start did her best to impress the judges with ‘Walk on by’, a song written by Burt Bacharach for Dionne Warwick.
The final performance was according to the judges, flawless. Melody performed the 1972 classic, "Lean on me" by Bill Withers.
The producers of the show surprised listeners with a second helping of performances as the contestants paired to perform.
Sammy and Abigail kicked it off with ‘I’m your angel’ by Céline Dion and R. Kelly and they received accolades for their performance.
Melody and Angie performed ‘Count on me’ by Whitney Houston and Cece Winans. The judges did not hide their appreciation as they could not stop applauding.
Philip and Victoria were qualified an unsuitable pair by the judges when they performed ‘When you believe’ by singers Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey.
The judges, clearly satisfied with the output of the contestants, did not hide their satisfaction but were quick to note that some of the contestants had exposed their weaknesses and cautioned them to work harder.
With another looming Eviction Show, the question now remains; who will make it into the Grand Finale? The event, which will take place on the 21st of August 2010 at the National Theatre, will feature four of the remaining six contestants.
