Miss World Storms Central Region Miss World during her arrival

The Miss World team, led by Executive Chairwoman of the Miss World organization, Julia Morley, visited the Central Region and paid a courtesy call on the Central Regional Minister Ama Benyiwa Doe.

The call formed part of a five-day working visit by the delegation, which also includes Miss World 2011 Ivian Sarcos and her two runners-up Miss Puerto Rico and Miss England to Ghana, to support the Beauty with a Purpose (BWP) project of Miss Ghana 2010, Stephanie Karikari.

The team was welcomed by some queen mothers of the traditional area including Nana Ama Amissah of the Mankessim traditional area, Nana Aba Afariwa III, Nana Esi Gyasiwaa, some regional executives of the NDC and Kwame Oppong, secretary to the regional minister.

Benyiwa Doe said she was pleased to receive the team, and gave them a historical background of the heritage that makes Cape Coast a unique region in Ghana, adding that she was happy that the Miss Ghana pageant was not just about beauty but also aimed at injecting life into society.
She later pledged a donation of GH¢10,000 to support the BWP project.

Chief Mandela, a grandson of Nelson Mandela, who accompanied the Miss World team on the trip, said the team was fully committed to ensuring better lives for all across the world.

He underscored the importance of education, adding that with the opportunity the project offered, more emphasis would be placed on making lives better.

“We are excited to be here and happy to be part of the project… thanks for the support,” he said.

Julia Morley added that “Stephanie’s enthusiasm shows that young people are wonderful and caring and only need the push to make it in life. We are happy to work with Stephanie Karikari.

We believe that beauty is not just in the face but it is in the heart. This is just a seed that is planted and we hope to make it better every year”.

The team also visited other historical sites in Cape Coast including the Kakum National Park.

Miss Ghana 2012 will be launched on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the State House. Miss Ghana 2012 is powered by Exclusive Events Ghana.

Miss World and her team arrived in Ghana Saturday night and would be in Ghana for a few days.
